Are you looking for a fun and exciting way to stay active and meet new people? We've got you covered at RECS! Whether you're a seasoned pro or completely new to the game, pickleball is a fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, and it's perfect for all ages and skill levels. We invite you to come join us on the courts at RECS for some lively competition and great social fun!

What are some of the unique pickleball play formats available to you at RECS?

1. Round Robins

All open play or "Round Robins" are set within different skill levels ranging from Beginner to 2.5 to Advanced 4.5+.

These sessions are not always strictly organized and there may be bye rounds in the play -- everyone may have to sit once, but only once as long as everyone takes their fair turn sitting out once. The standard is typically 1 to 2 extra players, depending on the number of courts assigned for the session. This is in case someone doesn't show up or someone leaves early. Games are timed for 12 mins and you play until the timer ends. You get a chance to play with different partners and opponents each round.

2. Humpty Dumpty

This is a "Win Up, Lose Down" format. You will split from the person you played with after each game, and move up a court if you won, or move down a court if you lost. If you lost on the bottom court, you split from your partner and stay there. If you won on the top court, you split from your partner but stay on the same court.

Everyone may have one bye, but never two!

Skill level for players participating in are numbered from 2.0-4.5

Note: Someone's rating is not their "high water mark"! Rather, it's a person's average level of play.

About Round Robin and Open Play sessions: These sessions are not always strictly organized and there may be bye rounds in the play -- everyone may have to sit once, but only once as long as everyone takes their fair turn sitting out once. Standard is typically 1 extra player per 2 or 3 courts. This is in case someone doesn't show or someone leaves early.

3. Team UP/DOWN

This is a unique organized play format for Teams of two. The skill level range is included in the event information and is usually fairly wide because the strong teams will "win up" to the more competitive end of the ladder, and upper sections and more recreational teams will move in the other direction. At each end of the courts, the levels of play should be somewhat even.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE: Register yourself, and enter the name of your partner in the required field. We will then register your partner.

Again -- only one person from each team needs to register, but be sure to enter the name of your partner in the required field.

**ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT, please don't hesitate to join the waitlist. Space in the event typically exists, but we cap #'s in an effort to control the "bye". In short, if you want to play, join the waitlist and give us a call.**

If you cancel, your partner will be withdrawn as well, unless you contact us promptly.

1) Games are timed, rather than playing to 11 points, to provide for a balanced and fair allocation of playing time for everyone participating.

2) After each game, winners "move up" and losers "move down".

3) Please be prompt! Anyone who does not arrive at the scheduled start time will likely miss out on the event.

4) Rule: Please don’t sign up if you know that you have to leave early. This messes up the format.

We have a multitude of ways to play at RECS, so don't hesitate to call us at 503-655-PLAY with questions!
